Philly Cheesesteak Braided Bread
If you want to make your own, follow this recipe at Aeri’s Kitchen. She has step-by-step photo instructions and a video.
Aeri has a recipe for a chili filling, which I have tried and is wonderful! I’ve made this a few times but with different fillings. You can just use her bread dough and make your own filling like BBQ pulled chicken or a breakfast one that includes hash browns, scrambled eggs, ketchup, mayo, and your choice of meat: chicken, ham, or sausage. The filling is up to you! =)
If making a dough seems too much of a hassle or you don’t have the necessary ingredients, then I suggest you get a frozen pizza dough (1 dough makes 1 loaf) in the freezer section of any grocery store. The dough is very similar and it’ll be like making stromboli or calzone! Just follow Aeri’s directions on how to roll the dough and braid it.
I used a softer, stickier, and stretchier dough which is harder to work with than Aeri’s dough. I used her dough in the 2nd link I provided up there and you can see how smooth the braiding was compared this dough! I just wanted a softer result.
Make sure to let the loaves rest 10-15 min so they can soften up and for easier cutting. They’re hard once out of the oven.
